So, some context: Dick Grayson, the original Robin, is currently Batman. Batman is Dead. Meanwhile, Captain America (who is also dead) has been replaced by his sidekick, Bucky.

invisiblemoose: Like, when you start the game you have a health bar and the word BATMAN above it. Pretty standard stuff for a game, right?

invisiblemoose: And at that point you can jump about and punch people. Whcih is all good.
invisiblemoose: But as soon as you get powerups and you start switching among them, the word BATMAN goes and you get whatever that weapon is called showing up.
invisiblemoose: So BATMAN isn't the name of the character. It's the name of an attack.
invisiblemoose: Whenever it looks like Batman is punching someone? He's Batman-ing them.

Our car has been causing no ends of the drama lately. Stopping, jerking around, needing multiple jumpstarts, and then stopping dead flat with less than 30 minutes till my next appointment. There is a rainbow at the end of the storm though, some much-needed repairs are being carried out under warranty. And in this case, it's a brand new gearbox. Normally this would cost $4k. Dayum. We managed to overcome most of the things we needed a car for, but we'll be better at it this week. Forewarned is forearmed, and all that. And thank god for the in-laws and their loan of a car for the weekend work that I will discuss in bullet point number 3. OMG FORESHADOWING!!

Because of this my posts have started to fall to the wayside on Deadzone. Sorry to everyone who is waiting for me to post--skip me if you can. But today was full-on, and I needed all of the night to get my paperwork and stuff sorted. I will be posting by this time tomorrow night. Can someone link to this post in chat so they know what's going on with me?

Hey, remember this guy?? well I bumped into him this week, whilst we were both working. He seemed to have forgiven the last few things that've happened between us, or has a flawed/skewed memory of the matter, or has just decided to forgive and forget. He's in a customer-service-ish role, so I guess some of his more colourful words have been suppressed. It was damn weird.

Thanks to car woes, my work performance has not been great this week. I was lucky to make up for it by working a 6th day this week, where I caught up with (and exceeded) my weekly quota. I have a pretty good crew with my current job. After working in Tauranga, we went to Mt Maunganui for a while. They are intelligent and thoughtful, and I always enjoy discussions with them. There are some very good jokers, we always crack each other up.

Speaking about cracking other people up, I got a pleasant ego-boost from beckyh2112 with her recent (and very in-jokey) post quoting some of the stuff I've bantered at various times. Thanks, Becca.

At 7:28pm today, in the dark, whilst I was driving back home on the other side of Cambridge, I saw a shooting star for the first time today. It was beautiful. I wish someone was with me to share it with.

'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' must be played at my funeral. Must. And sung along to by the attendees. And I am serious about this. Don't make me haunt you.

If you take your sparkplugs out and you find out they're dirty, and you need to put them back in to get new sparkplugs, make sure you've made a note of what kind of plugs you need first. Gah.

...and of course it wasn't the sparkplugs causing the problem. Hopefully I can learn more tomorrow, otherwise it's going to have to go to a mechanic to see, and we'll be paying money we don't have. Bleh.

So, there's this film that everyone is talking about at the moment.

I wasn't impressed.

Now, I'm not a major TF movie hater, like some of the fans out there. I really loved the first movie, warts and all. There are giant robots in it, they turn into stuff, and there are some neat fights. Some of the jokes are fun, some are just pointlessly crude. And I know that this movie is going to suffer from the fact that it can no longer create that initial squee of seeing my childhood heroes on the big screen.

And yes, there was a lot of awesome. Optimus, especially, was great, both in his fight scenes and as a diplomat. He is especially hardass in this one, in a take no prisoners kind of way. Bumblebee rocked. Jetfire was great, even if they got carried away with the old man jokes. The Megatron and Starscream dynamic was fun. The humans were less obnoxious.

But my god. Mudflap and Skids. They went up to what might have been another flawed-but-fun movie and then shat on it. You know what would be better than an Jar-Jar Binks in this movie? If he was a robot, and there were two of them! (tumblecoyote referenced a place calling them "Car-Car Binks", which makes me glad I'm not the only one who made the comparison.) They can have big ears and talk trash, one of them can have buck-teeth (one of which is gold!) And you can make a point of them saying they don't like to read! And have one of them drop the N-bomb (or so I'm told, though I didn't catch that when I saw it.)

They were such offensive black stereotypes. So of course, do we see them once or do they practically carry the movie in places, to the detriment of other characters? Thaaaat's right.

I think Michael Bay needs to get someone else to write humour for him. Some of his stuff is good. Bumblebee was fantastic, very expressive. And then you have a stoned forty-something woman tackling people and stealing frisbees. And robot testicles. And action sequences that for some reason cut to dogs humping.

And don't get me wrong, I don't mind off-colour humour, when it's clever. But this was crassness for the sake of it.

I think that what bothers me most is that these things were left in when so much more had been left out. Like, some actual personalities for the Autobots. Or some decent face time. I mean, Arcee and Sideswipe have a couple of lines, but are never seen in robot mode except for ultra-blurry action sequences. Ratchet does nothing medical. We barely get screentime for anyone. And I get that an expanded cast means less screen time to share. So why do established characters get very little face time in favour of humping dogs and robo-dick jokes?

I want to like this movie. There is stuff that is excellent. But, eh. I wasn't impressed with the second Spider-Man movie when I first saw it, and in a week I thought it was the best. We'll see how time influences my feelings on this movie.

It's over! I've done what I set out to. Barring anyone deleting a comment or creating a hidden post and then later unlocking it, I've made a comment on every post in my friend's list for a week. Including my own. What's more, I ensured that every reply to my own posts got a reply from me.

Some things I forgot to take into consideration when I set this challenge for myself:
-The slash fiction writers on my flist
-The fact that just because I check my flist regularly makes reading it manageable, but commenting on it is MUCH harder.
-That there are people who use LJ as a stream of consciousness, aka warren_ellis. Technically I never said about editing my flist during the week, but I cannot help but feel that would have been cheating.
-That some people who I consider friends use their LJ regularly to speak on subjects that I know very little about. It's hard to offer thought-out remarks on a regular basis, even if what they're saying is interesting!
-That some of my friends make posts in languages other than english!

Uh.. I don't really know what I was going to accomplish by doing this. But, I said I'd do it and I did it. I guess that's something.

Now someone please shake me very vigorously if I ever entertain the notion of doing it again!

One thing I've noticed about posting all the time is that if you slip up once, it's VERY hard to catch up. I went straight to bed on Monday, and didn't have any time to do a full catch-up yesterday morning, and then next thing I know I have a whole page-and-a-half of uncommented posts!

I'm now only about five behind, but I have to leave it for now. I expect plenty more to be waiting for me when I get back. You bastards.

The highlight of the day (nay, the week) happened late this afternoon where I not only got a piggy-back* from a grown man, but piggy-backed him in return. Unsurprisingly didn't get very far with me, but bless him, he gave it a shot.

Also, on a whim I have made a decision. For the next week, if a post A) appears on my friend's list, and B) is able to be commented on, I will post a comment in. At least one.

It will not just be a smiley or emoticon. It will be thought out, more than a single word**, ideally a full sentence or two.

*not a euphemism.
**unless I decide that my comment is going to consist of a totally awesome five-minute MS Paint creation.

The Clone Wars animated series was heralded in with a feature-length cinematic release. You'd think that People would want to cash in on that.

So why is it on TV at three thirty on a Friday? A time slot that typically gets reserved for shows like Dora the Explorer and its ilk?

High Schools get out at 3:20 over here. Way to blow off virtually all of the show's target market, TV3.
