Yup. My silk twill is very similar to habotai in the way it does not like to dye ;) The weave is extremely smooth and close together so the dye doesn't have much of a chance to really get into the fibres. Still it does mean less chance of uneven dyeing when it's hard to get colour in in the first place ;). I can just over dye again tomorrow to get the depth of colour I want. It's close to what I want just a little pale still. I think the machine is on its last spin.... Waiting.... Waiting.... Nearly.... *twiddle thumbs*.... So I finally got it washed and dried and it is too light. However remembering how difficult it is to dye I just popped the silk straight back into the dye bath without wetting it first and voila. Perfect result. Now to make sure the washing machine is able to finish washing some towels and then I get to wash and dry the silk. Just testing the best way to cut the saree into a faldallin as the repeat pattern is quite wide but also uneven. I decided to just line it with the same brown linen I'm using for the verdugardos. so I may just get cutting and see...

So I've been wondering something recently. It's rather become fairly well accepted in the scientific community that the Universe is still expanding. They have determined this based upon Einstein's calculations, and through the red-shift that astronomers have observed as they keep looking out further and farther back in time. I wonder, though... Is it really? I mean, the red-shifted light that we're seeing now is millions upon millions upon millions of years old. How do we know that in the time since that light left those galaxies, that the Universe hasn't actually stopped expanding and is now contracting? Or holding steady. Or turning plaid? And then I started wondering if we would ever even see the implosion of the universe if such a thing did happen to occur in our lifetimes? On one hand, yes, we would have to see it coming - nothing is faster than light, of course. On the other hand... if the Universe had ceased expanding and begun contracting, it could have a head start of, potentially, hundreds of millions of years on the light which shows us that. At some point, that light has to actually catch up with the contracting edge of the universe, of course... or could the contracting edge of the universe actually, conceivably, overtake the light still on its way to us? My brain isn't totally wrapping all around the concept as fully as I would like... But it does make me wonder... How exactly can we be sure that we really know what we think we know? heh.

I love Moon Wiring Club. And not just because I got their new record this weekend, which I am going to play tonight because I’ve been sick and/or unconscious with some weird bug since Friday morning. Oh no. (What if it cured me?) No, I love them because they do things like this, too:
In 1982, Gelographic RadioTelevision co-broadcast a test transmission for the tentative BBC5 channel.
Although the station idents were deemed a massive success, sadly the only known survivors of this viewing were unable to be traced, due to radiation issues. This archive footage has been recently unearthed, and provides a tempting glimpse into what those who watched through the smoked glass were able to see.
The musical accompaniment, acclaimed in some quarters, features on the new Moon Wiring Club album ’Striped Paint for the Last Post’, due ’sometime’ November. Certainly before the feast of Syllabub in any case.
Remember: confusing electronic music is a great British tradition.

- Help Phoenix Marie
"We are raising funds to get urgently needed medical treatment for our beloved friend, Phoenix Marie. She has been battling a life-threatening progressive heart valve disease since 2006, when she had her first heart failure and near death experience. With no insurance to cover her, Phoenix sold almost all of her valuable belongings and clothing and did eBay sales for half a year in order to see a specialist and receive the tests and costly x-rays needed to diagnose her condition. Her heart disease was a congenital defect (from birth) that was apparently misdiagnosed in childhood as harmless and left unchecked…" (tags:people )

If you do this you owe me a million dollars.

Apple has filed for patent on a technology they call an "enforcement routine," that’ll display ads on pretty much any device with a screen and demand that you view them — or else you don’t get your device back:
Its distinctive feature is a design that doesn’t simply invite a user to pay attention to an ad — it also compels attention. The technology can freeze the device until the user clicks a button or answers a test question to demonstrate that he or she has dutifully noticed the commercial message. Because this technology would be embedded in the innermost core of the device, the ads could appear on the screen at any time, no matter what one is doing.

Had an exciting morning yesterday. A little background. My son is learning to cook. He's very good at if a bit sloppy and careless, the usual stuff, not reading recipes properly, getting measurements wrong, spilling stuff everywhere. Generally, though, he has a healthy respect for sharp objects. We have a very sharp object, a mandolin for cutting potatoes and other things. I make mean homemade potato chips because of it. Anyway, he went to make his hashbrown potatoes and I suddenly hear horrible screaming. Before I can get off my aft, he's running into the living room flinging blood everywhere. He's cut his fingers. I grab him and rush him back to the kitchen to rinse his hand so I can see. Now, he screaming and jumping all over the place. I have blood everywhere. I rinse his hand and blood is gushing out of his fingertips. He's cut himself, really cut himself. I grab the nearest cloth which is a not so clean dishtowel and wrap his hand, holding it with all my strength. It's painful, he's crying, I'm shouting at hubby that we have to get him to the ER. None of us are dressed. I'm not going in my pajamas. Son is barefoot. I mention stitches and he totally freaks and I'm now trying to calm him down enough that we can get shoes on him and he can hold his hand so I can get dressed. Daughter whines and complains but cleans up the living room floor and arranges for a ride to her fund raiser. Half an hour later, we're in the ER. Saturday morning is a quiet time and he is being checked in immediately. Yes, he needs stitches, yes, he gets hysterical again. But he does very well and holds still while they numb his hand, is able to tell the dr that his index finger isn't numbing up and tolerates the multiple shots to finally get it numb enough to work on. An hour and a half later he has 11 stitches in three fingers and a huge dressing on his hand. About half way through the stitches, my adrenalin disappears, my lack of breakfast and coffee makes itself known and I'm suddenly feeling faint. Yeah, mom nearly faceplanted in the emergency room, but I got a chair and was able to sit before it happened. Anyway, he's doing fine. Less pain today than yesterday. No school tomorrow until we can get the dressing removed. A little whining about wanting two hands. On another note, daughter and I are probably going to NYC in February for the Utada Hikaru concert. We got tickets but that still doesn't mean we'll be going. Lots of factors need to be considered like transportation there and hotel and missing school. Further news will be coming.

SO. Guess who's doing airborne stuff coming summer? Mistwind's character device was very dismayed with me that I didn't step up and try to research his world, in particular his dynamics, a bit more. So coming spring/summer I will be seeking out an afternoon of delta-flying! Controlled/rode tanks, examined chinooks/apaches up close, owned several dogs, am a tracer, dove with a diving suit, but the closest thing I got to being airborne was a commercial airline. Mistwind: "That's nothing like mine!" And there we have it. -Points- there's a glider club in my backyard right there, ain't it? And 30 minutes with the car and we got delta-flyers.

Spend the last 30 minutes in a non-stop jogging pace on the spot, full stealth (every impact shock diverted by the muscles instead of by the bones). Haven't been doing anything for my fitness lately; it's great to see the muscle memory still maintaining the standards considering it's been more than a year back when I trained twice a week. Am feeling energized instead of tired, even with having gone out last night. Great idea! I'm going to start a daily small hour 'round the block or 'round the park during my weeks. It has all kinds of benefits: - I'm maintaining a good posture - It's refreshing - It settles the thoughts - It's good for your condition - The endorphins that get released make you feel good

I think i have finally got all my old posts tagged..... And I also have half the chain stitches on the other Reinette sleeve :) If I had to do more i think I'd have driven myself insane. I still need to decide on sleeve lining fabric... and sew the bodice at shoulder and waist seams. Then put in grommets. Sew ruffles and stomacher...

Normally I have a very twitchy delete finger when it comes to checking email, and thus I will delete anything that I don't recognize, anything with the word 'free' in the subject line never even makes it to my in box.. I am toying with the idea of auto junking anything sent from the entire Yahoo network.. but every now and then, something pops in there that actually gets my attention. OK, lets say once every ten years. This one was an offer sent from www.alltern8.com/I'm not sure if they saw some of my blogging online or just sent the email randomly, but they are accepting applications from people interested in blogging for them, at first for free, then as the hits increase and based on the number of posts, it becomes paid work. Now, I already post RPG related stuff for free, so I have nothing to lose from doing it for possible monetary rewards, however, I am concerned that I will be able to do it on a weekly basis. But then, I run a weekly game and I create material for that all the time... and if there is one thing Dungeons and Dragons players like, it is blogs that post about stuff they can use in their games. While I could use the blog to talk about theory and tactics, hints and tips.. there are many bloggers that do that already.. but not that many, as far as I know, concentrate on usable resources. I know of a few excellent locations to pick up freely offered material (public access), and I have my own creations (obviously, I'm going to have to do the monster entries without using my hard drive load of monster images, unless I get express permission from up and coming artists for a free plug on the blog) and I love to make random roll tables and the like... so really, it just comes down to time and effort. I am seriously considering it. First though, I want to create a decent backlog of stuff so that I always have something I can throw in at a moment's notice.. maybe aim for a regular weekday post on a Friday... hmmm OK, more on this if it pans out! On the health front... Getting over the lurgy is directly proportionate to the requirement to go get a medical cert if I take one more day off work... I hate going to the doctors, I'll just load up on cold meds and vitamins and to hell with the joint pain, mucus and dizzy spells! It's all in my head... that's why they call it a head cold right? Ha Ha Ha *cough cough*!I'm gonna die

NaNoWriMo is still on, I'm just wrestling with a block and most of the prompts wanting to morph into things far beyond my skill level as a writer. So I have to beat them back. We're having a grand old time. Also, also, I've just started reading the Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss and I think it is one of the most awesome series ever. I have a deep love for Niner, and also for the many interactions of Ordo and Fi. I don't even like Star Wars all that much and I love these books. (And the game demo. Want more Delta squad, please? And psycho-Sev?) I'll save a more in-depth gush-fest for when my keyboard isn't sticking and being a general pain in my rear.
